Football for Girls

via

via

As football season is upon us, I'm sure I'm not the first girl to admit I'm not a huge fan of the game. Gabe and many of my friends love football, so I often find myself watching anyway. And while I have no interest in the sport, I actually enjoy "watching" football. Part of it is probably the tradition that surrounds the sport, the rituals involved, and the fact that football season seems to mark the beginning of Fall and a nostalgic feeling about the upcoming holidays. But beyond that, there are many reason I love watching football which include my own rituals for the game. What do you love about watching football?

1. Barbecues at Bunz' house- Bunz is an excellent cook and his barbecues always involve a lavish spread of chef quality food. Food makes me happy.
2. Reading gossip and fashion magazines.
3. Watching for celebrities in the stands (more specifically, Gisele).
4. Eating my weight in chips and dip and for some reason not feeling guilty about it.
5. The commercial game (guessing what they're advertising before it's shown-I clean up at this game).
6. Did I mention the food?

I like following Alabama football, but it turns into 12+ hour days around here and that does get a little long. Always nice to have a stack of fashion mags and a bottle of wine in the fridge to help pass the time :)

I'm glad you found your own way to love football. I agree the spread of food makes it all the better. Its not like its on every day, just Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and sometimes Thursday!

the food is the best part. and sometimes when it becomes a sunday funday.

i went to univ. of iowa, so football was a huge deal there. i spent 4 years getting up every football saturday at the crack of dawn to tailgate. now we usually just go to iowa bars in chicago but it makes for a fun day to gossip and kind of watch the game! haha

I completely agree that the food is the BEST! I too don't care for sports, but I do enjoy watching them live, and there is something about the humming of a football game in the background on a Sunday afternoon. It reminds me of growing up and listening to my dad watch the game. Luckily, Jimmy isn't the biggest football fan, but we do enjoy the superbowl.

Great post!

Girl. I'm with you. And I go to Notre Dame. But it's totally okay, because it's all in the spirit, right? And the food -- oh, man. Tailgates here are CRAZY; you walk past tents with live lobsters and steak... Incredible.

Val I'm not a fan of the football, but I love the snacks and the getting together and the staring off blindly into snack heaven while everyone else is screaming their heads off leaving more for me! hehe

Kindred spirits! :)

I wholeheartedly agree with u! I'm not much of a fan myself but all of the activity that goes with watching the games is a completely different story :)

Since I don't have a man in my life (at the moment), I get out of the football watching. But I always know that it's Fall/Football season when I hear the sounds of a game being played, accompanied by the band of the high school near my house.

We are the same person. I love hearing it in the background, but I have no idea what's going on. I swear, every SINGLE year someone explains it to me. In one ear, out the other.

Catching up on blogs! haha that's what I do. I have to keep my mind occupied. It's the only sport I can't stand to watch for some reason.

That spinach dip has me WEAK! I want it so badly! Haha! I'm with you, not a big fan of actually watching football, but can enjoy a game every once in a while!

Football season is my favorite! I think I love getting together with all my friends and stuffing myself with food that you only tend to eat at sporting events. Plus, it's always a bonus to see my husband happy when his Gators win.
