Potato Chip Capital of the World

Gabe and I are visiting Detroit this week (I've never been and Gabe went once a long time ago).  To be honest, I haven't heard the best things about it, but we're going in with an open mind and hoping to have a fun week!  These are a few interesting facts I've found about the city.  If you know Detroit well and have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

-it's the potato chip capital of the world, based on consumption (my kind of place)
-has the most registered bowlers in the US
-it's the home of Madonna, Eminem, and Tom Selleck
-has the largest theater district in the US next to New York
-built the nation's first urban freeway in 1942 (the Davison)
-is the home of Motown

Hold the phone Val. The potato chip capital? Um, this could be a sign. Keep your eyes peeled for Ketchup chips!! And Eminem paraphernalia. Closet fan here.

Anyway - wishing you a great trip, a pile of chips, and a speedy and safe return. I really hope Charlie Sheen was not on your flight. Did you hear he got boo'd off the stage there this weekend? GOOD - is that over yet?

xo,
Carrie

Go to Slow's BBQ and to PizzaPapalis in Greektown. Neither will disappoint. Enjoy!

ah, detroit, my sort of hometown. i'm from toledo, which is a mini-detroit, 45 minutes south. my dad was born in detroit, too. yes, it's sad, but i'm hoping it makes a comback some day soon. hope it wasn't TOO deserted for your trip!

Hope you have a good week. I went to Detroit last year. While I wouldn't live there it was definitely fun and worth while to visit!

I've never been to Detroit -- although Notre Dame is just ten minutes south of Michigan -- but I hope you have a BLAST. I'm sure you'll find something fabulous to do!

My fiance is from the Detroit Area. His advice is to have a coney dog, go to Greektown, and see a sporting event.

Just found your blog, it's lovely!
